Abstract
Natural fibre composites (NFC) are gaining popularity due to their versatility and environmental benefits, but they often need enhancements to withstand extreme conditions and maintain performance across various applications. Bio-inspired coatings offer a promising solution by mimicking natural systems to develop advanced properties such as self-cleaning, water repellency, thermal regulation, and corrosion resistance. This review examines recent advancements in bio-inspired coatings for NFC, highlighting a range of innovative coatings and their unique properties. We discuss the latest developments, applications, and the specific challenges these coatings address in NFC contexts. Additionally, the review explores future research opportunities, including the integration of emerging technologies like nanotechnology and additive manufacturing. By providing an overview of the current state of bio-inspired coatings for NFC, this review aims to encourage further research and innovation in this rapidly growing field.
