| dc.description | The area of information visualisation has attracted a great deal of attention in recent years. 4D 5D, and nD “buzz words” have also started to emerge. Undoubtedly, visualising information in VR and 3D is beneficial. However, a large number of professionals in the construction sector still use 2Ds as ways of representing design and other information. This is mainly attributed to the reluctance of the industry to use technologies that have failed to identify business benefits that can be derived from their use. As a result, there appears to be a gap between the capabilities of 3D/VR-based visual information and its use. | |
| dc.description.abstract | This paper addresses the issue of information visualisation within the context of business process integration. Visual technologies offer appropriate information interfaces that facilitate the integration of main stream construction applications. This paper assesses the needs of visualisation by the construction sector, it then describes recent developments in the areas of 4D/5D modelling. This paper also investigates the state of maturity and uptake of these technologies by the industry. Following this, the results of various projects conducted at Salford within the area of information visualisation are presented. The paper concludes with a set of recommendations for the better use of visual technologies by the construction sector. Keywords: 4D, Construction Process, Maturity, Virtual Reality, Visualisation, Uptake. | |
