Abstract
As competition in the education sector continues to increase there is an ongoing need for empirical studies into the drivers of student program selection. This paper presents the findings of a study into the reasons why students select undergraduate degree programs in hospitality management at Victoria University (Australia). A sample of 260 first year students (Freshmen) were surveyed. The results highlight the need to target program information to peers, teachers, parents and other significant adults during the final years of high school studies whilst taking into account differences in program selection motivations between male and female prospective students.
