Abstract

In this paper, we propose a two-area load frequency control through the use of MATLAB/Simulink for enhancing power system dynamic performance while operating over a wide range of various parameters and operating conditions. Each model consists of a turbine, generator, and a governor. The user controls the parameters for both the areas through a Graphical User Interface. The steady-state characteristics are calculated and provided to the user using our proposed graphical user interface. Also, the model provides the users the freedom to modify and control the parameters to optimize the results of the load control. It allows for real-time simulations to facilitate testing the power system's control. The model is designed to automatically build the transfer functions for the load frequency control systems given the parameters inputted by the users. Our results compare the frequency deviation step response and power deviation step response for different input gains controlled by the user to allow real-time graphical comparison. This allows the user to visually observe the effect of changing various parameters' values on the step responses for both single and double areas.
