Abstract

In this paper, we introduce a new failure detector for wireless ad-hoc and mesh networks that adapts the detection parameters to the current state of the network. This new crash faults detector implements a variant of the heartbeat approach on top of a gossip-style failure detection protocol. Our failure detector is shown be eventually perfect by satisfying both properties: strong completeness (i.e., there is a time after which every faulty mobile is permanently suspected by every fault-free host) and eventual strong accuracy (i.e., no host will be suspected before it crashes).
