Abstract
This paper audits knowledge-sharing research and explores knowledge sharing in the UAE and the banking sector in particular. This research paper is based on a literature review of knowledge sharing and two main theories - social exchange theory and self-determination theory. Each factor is recorded together with analysis of its relevance and relationships in the context of knowledge-sharing constructs and previously used tools for measuring and quantifying and its relationship to different elements. The findings lead to a model that can be applied in a banking organisation and which takes into account the importance of individual factors to knowledge sharing. Other factors related to social exchange (such as personality and knowledge type) are beyond the scope of this research. This study provides a comprehensive framework for helping banking organisations to increase knowledge sharing among their employees. This aggregates existing insights and offers a new framework for knowledge sharing.
