Abstract

Blockchain technology has emerged as a transformative solution for enhancing transparency, security, and efficiency in supply chain management, particularly in the healthcare sector. This paper explores the application of blockchain for improving pharmaceutical supply chains by ensuring the traceability of medicines from manufacturing to end- user delivery. By leveraging decentralized and immutable ledger systems, the proposed solution mitigates the risks of counterfeit drugs and enhances trust among stakeholders. Additionally, the integration of blockchain with Internet of Things (IoT) devices provides real- time monitoring of storage conditions and ensures product integrity. The system also prevents dispensing errors in pharmacies through QR code- based verification, addressing challenges posed by similar- sounding drug names. The study discusses the technical framework, implementation challenges, and the potential of blockchain to revolutionize healthcare logistics, improve patient safety, and increase operational efficiency in pharmaceutical supply chains. © 2025 by IGI Global Scientific Publishing.
