The chalcones comprising diphenyl ether moiety (III 1-a 16) have been prepared by Claisen Schmidt condensation of 3-phenoxy benzaldehyde (II) with substituted acetophenones. A mixture of chalcone (III), thiourea and alcoholic KOH when refluxed yielded thiazine derivatives (III 1-a 6). The structures of new compounds have been elucidated on the basis of elemental analysis and spectral data. The synthesized compounds were screened for their antibacterial, antifungal, antitubercular and antiflammatory activity. Few compounds exhibited excellent antitubercular activity.
