Parameters of Productive Workplace Behavior in the UAE An empirical study

Abstract

Few studies have explored workplace behaviour and the environment in the government sector. This study investigates variables that may improve productive work behavior (PWB). The analytical hierarchy process is utilized to select and prioritize the most relevant criteria for the improvement of PWB by analyzing the responses collected from 50experts. Flexibility, job specifications and leadership were highly scored criteria, and collectively accounted for more than 89% of the eight components studied. These variables were interchangeably enhanced by the active use of the information technology. The use of technology, including laptops, and Telework, improves the flexibility of work practices to the employees and allows organizations to meet business dynamics in the market and balance production costs and the quality of their services.At the subcriterion level, pay and benefit, as well as time flexibility were the most significant subcriteria of flexibility. Concerning job specifications, supervisors’ support was the most crucial subcriterion. The vision was more critical than role model and ethics, among the subcriteriaof leadership. The findings recommend adopting a taxonomical approach to mapping the moderating variables relevant to the topographical and viergonomic background, in order to identify new specifications which may be added to enhance workplace performance in government organizations. This implications of this study include the optimization of workplace behavior and identifying the numerous factors that may improve productivity. Knowledge of the differential impacts of the criteria on the performance of PWB govern decision-makers in private and governmental organisation, especially at times of economic turmoil and need for innovative strategies.
