Cloud computing in healthcare and medical imaging: A brief overview

Abstract

Nowadays, a significant volume of medical imaging and patient health records is generated. These data are significant and vital for decision-making and predicting disease outcomes for patients. Cloud-based healthcare-sharing systems are increasingly emerging in medicine. They offer an attractive solution and provide easy accessing, sharing, and viewing of different medical data across departments, service providers, and organizations. This would cause a huge benefit in patient's quality of service. The purpose of this chapter is analyzing and comparing existing cloud-computing systems for healthcare. Numerous research papers from several resources were studied, i.e., IEEE, ScienceDirect, and MEDLINE. We also shed some light on the challenges and the future role of cloud computing in the medical field. Keywords Medical imaging, patient health, Cloud based healthcare
